*Marrakech (Stamile, P.) TET 6262-E (Violet Becomes You X [(Scarlet Lace x Seize The Night sdlg.) x Complementary Colors]} 28” EMRe. emo. Ev. 6” x 3.5” x 2.5”. 5-way branching (3 laterals plus terminal “y”). 50-55 buds.

The 6262 seedlings are one of the most successful failures I have had. Having few pod parents for my reds (my best red pod parent had great branching but was small) I took my reds to the easily fertile violet VIOLET BECOMES YOU. I knew violets and purples will sometimes color shift into rose red like they did with CERISE MASTERPIECE. This time it did not work but it did not matter since the purples resulting from the clear purple to clear red were outstanding. I got everything from violet to purple to wine purple to black purple with great substance, form and clear colors – just no reds. If you take any of the 6262s but especially Marrakech which has been our most heavily used of the 6262 cross back to reds you get reds but it takes that second generation from VIOLET BECOMES YOU.

Marrakech was used with reds in an attempt to get the chartreuse green edge from Marrakech onto the reds. This has been somewhat successful. You do get reds but not always with green edges. We have taken Marrakech to green edged pinks which come from a different genetic base for green edges and are excited about that.  Guy has put Marrakech pollen everywhere this season, and 2010 is bound to be a very exciting seedling year.

I would strongly recommend Marrakech for those who like a different look in the purples. A wonderful daylily. Fertile both ways.   LIMITED
